M.C Esher







M.C Esher is real name is Maurits Cornelis Escher, Born (1898-1972) in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. M.C. Escher, during his lifetime, made 448 lithographs, woodcuts and wood engravings and over 2000 drawings and sketches. After finishing school, he traveled extensively through Italy, where he met his wife Jetta Umiker, whom he married in 1924. He also made some wonderful, more realistic work during the time he lived and traveled in Italy. Between 1936 and 1942 Escher produced 43 colored drawings with a wide variety of symmetry types while working on possible periodic tilings. His father was a civil engineer, and he realized at an early age that his son had a liking for art and drawing. He is known for his often mathematicallly inspired woodcutst, lithographs, and mezzotints. These feature impossible constructions, explorations of infinity, architecture, and tessellations.
